ATO Logbook Rules
This app uses the logbook method — no km cap, actual costs × work use %.
ATO requires a 12-week continuous logbook to establish your work use %. Logbook is valid for up to 5 years unless your work use changes significantly.
If work km stay under 5,000/yr, the cents per km method (88c/km, no receipts needed, $4,400 max) may be simpler — the app flags this automatically.
GST Registered — Effective 1 July 2026
Your ABN is now GST registered. NDIS services remain GST-free — do not add 10% to NDIS invoices. Private clients are taxable — add 10% GST to those invoices.
You can now claim input tax credits (GST back) on all business expenses. First BAS due 28 October 2026 covering July–September.

Private Client Income (Taxable — GST Applies)
Log income from non-NDIS private clients here. You must charge 10% GST on top of your rate and remit it to the ATO via BAS. The GST collected is NOT your income — set it aside separately.
Input Tax Credits — GST on Business Expenses
For every business expense that includes GST, you can claim 1/11th back. The app auto-calculates from your logged deductions. Add any extras here — including the D-MAX purchase.
D-MAX Purchase — One-off GST Credit
Vehicle purchase price (incl GST): $43,000
GST component (1/11): $3,909.09
Claim this on your Q1 BAS (October 2026) as an input tax credit.
Work use %: enter your logbook % at lodgement — your accountant may apportion this.
BAS Reference — NDIS GST Rules
NDIS services — GST-free (Section 38-38)
✓ Do NOT add 10% GST to NDIS invoices
✓ Report NDIS income as GST-free sales on BAS (Label G3)
✓ You can still claim input tax credits on your expenses
✓ GST-free applies when: participant has current plan, support is reasonable and necessary, you have a service agreement
Private clients — taxable
⚑ Add 10% GST on top of your private rates
⚑ Collect the GST and remit it via BAS — it's not your income

Super Contributions
Super Reference — Sole Trader Rules
You are not legally required to pay yourself super as a sole trader. But you absolutely should for your future, and because it's one of the most powerful tax levers you have.
Every dollar you contribute (up to $32,500/year) is fully deductible from your taxable income. It goes in at 15% tax inside super instead of 30%+ on the way in.
Notice of Intent to Claim: You must lodge this form with your super fund BEFORE you lodge your tax return. Without it, you lose the deduction. No exceptions.
Hostplus Indexed Balanced — confirmed as your fund (USI HOS0100AU). All contributions go there.
Log debts and obligations the ATO calculates at tax time — HECS/HELP repayments, child support, and any other liabilities. These get added to your tax bill at lodgement and are shown separately in your EOY estimate.

HECS / HELP Repayment Calculator

Repayment is based on your repayment income, not just taxable income. If your HELP balance is less than the calculated repayment, only the balance is collected — the debt is cleared.
Child support is handled separately by Services Australia — it can intercept tax refunds if arrears exist. Contact CSA to confirm your current status before lodging.
